Important Installation Checklist for Residential Transaction Manager

Please print this checklist by clicking the printer icon above. Please check off each checkbox as you complete it. Please do not skip steps ~ skipping steps will result in a failed installation. If you need help, please visit our online support center at http://www.act4realestate.com/support.htm.
If you see an Internet address, simply open your Internet Browser ( Internet Explorer, AOL, Netscape) and carefully type the address into your Internet browser and press enter.
Example: http://www.act4realestate.com typing this address into your Internet Browser will take you to our home page. All Internet Addresses in this install checklist are BOLD and UNDERLINED.

Make
sure you have Windows 95,98,2000,ME,or XP Installed.
Make
sure your screen resolution is 800x600 or better.
Make
sure you have Microsoft Word 97, 2000, or XP Installed.
Make
sure you have Act! 2000, Act 5 or Act 6 installed on your computer.
Residential Transaction Manager is the essential Act! ADD-ON MODULE for Real Estate Professionals, hence you need Act! installed on your computer to run our program. To find out your Act version, open Act, click on HELP > ABOUT ACT. If you need to purchase Act!, please visit http://www.computerconsulting.net.
Write
down user name and password for existing Act! databases
If you have ANY existing Act! databases on your computer, and you require a password to get in, please write down the USER NAME and PASSWORD for each and every act database on your computer. Many Act! users rely on the "remember password function" of the login box shown on the next page. However, when you open a different database, the box FORGETS what passwords you had for any other databases that you have on your computer. If you have your user name and passwords written down, it will be very easy to get back into all of your existing databases. If you do not write down your user name and passwords, you will not be able to access any existing act databases on your computer. Please use the space provided on the next page to write down your user names and passwords.

Backup any existing Act! databases on your computer.
Please take this opportunity to backup your existing Act! Databases. A good backup will protect you in case your computer crashes or is torn to pieces by a virus! If you need assistance backing up your databases, please contact a computer consultant in your area.
Download
Residential Transaction Manager
Visit the following Internet site to get the install file: http://www.act4realestate.com/download.htm. A box will appear that asks what you want to do with the file. Click on SAVE to disk.
You will see a box asking you where to put the file. Click the DROP DOWN at the top and select DESKTOP as you see below.

Click on SAVE to begin the download. The download file size is approx. 8.73MB and will not take very long, even if you are using a modem connection.
Install
Residential Transaction Manager.
Close all open programs. You will see a new icon on your desktop labeled RTM.exe. Double click the RTM.EXE icon. The install program will begin. Just click NEXT and Residential Transaction Manager will be installed. When the installation is finished, Click FINISH.
IF YOU USE ACT! 2000, SKIP OVER THE STEP BETWEEN THE TWO BLACK LINES!

Act 6 User's
ONLY Upgrade RTM to Act 6
Click START > PROGRAMS > RESIDENTIAL TRANSACTION MGR > UPGRAGE RTM TO ACT 6.
Read the warning provided, if you are using Act! 2000, click CANCEL. If you are using Act 6, Click OK.
Click UNZIP to Upgrade RTM to Act 6. The files will unzip. Click OK to pop-up box. Click CLOSE.

Change Three settings in your Act! program.
Open your Act! program, using the Act! icon. Click on EDIT > PREFERENCES you will see a box that looks like this:

In the default locations in the top right corner, click the drop down shown in the green box and select LAYOUT. There will be a top white area, and a bottom white area.
Write down what appears in the bottom white area surrounded by the blue box (Location).
Highlight the entry. TYPE THE FOLLOWING INTO THE BLANK EXACTLY AS YOU SEE IT HERE:
C:\RTM\DATABASE
Select the STARTUP tab at the top. The following box will appear.

In the top left hand corner, (in the blue box shown above) you see default contact layout, if there is anything in the box, write down what is in the box on the line below:
Then simply click at the end of the black text and then backspace over it and type in the following:
C:\RTM\DATABASE\RTM.CLY
Next, in the top right hand corner, write down what is in the white box on the line below:
Again, put your cursor at the end of the black text, backspace over it and then type the following C:\RTM\DATABASE\RTM.GLY
Click on OK. You will be returned to the database, close Act!
Open
Residential Transaction Manager for the first time.
Find the icon labeled "Residential Transaction Manager" on your desktop or start menu and double click on it. Your Act! Program will open, and a box will appear asking for a USER NAME (top white box) and PASSWORD (bottom white box). Please type in the user name and password we provide below and click OK. Residential Transaction Manager will open.
User Name: abcd
Password: 1234

Example:
Note: Password is displayed as **** when you are entering it.
Make
seven more changes to your Act! program.
(Each setting that needs to be changed will have a small check box next to it for your convenience)

You will then see the preferences box, pictured below.

Write down the current setting for Word Processor shown in the top left hand corner.
When you have finished writing, click the drop down, and select Microsoft Word 95 2000.
Office / Word XP Users: Select Word XP. If Word XP is unavailable, Please download and install the Act! 5.04 update from http://www.computerconsulting.net/support/ and click on ACT! 5.04 update. After you install the update, you will see Word XP in the list of options.
The rest of the changes in this section will be made to the "default locations" section located in the top right hand corner of the general tab.

Click on the top drop down, and you will see the following entries: Briefcase, Database, Document, Document Template, Drafts, E-mail, Internet Mail, Layout, Macro, Netlinks, Query, Report, Label, Envelope,
Spelling Dictionary, Synchronize,
The first
entry you should click on is Database. The bottom drop down will change. write down
the contents of the bottom location box.
When you are finished writing, click within the box at the end of the black text in the bottom drop down box. Hit your backspace key until the black text has been removed.
Then type in: C:\RTM\DATABASE exactly as you see it here.
When you are
finished typing, click on the top drop down again, and this time select
Document Template. Write down the contents of the bottom location box.
Then again backspace over whatever appears in the bottom box, and type the following: C:\RTM\TEMPLATE exactly as you see it here.
Next select Macro
from the top drop down menu, write down the contents of the bottom location box.
Backspace over the contents in the bottom box, and type the following: C:\RTM\DATABASE
Next select Netlinks
from the top drop down menu, write down the contents of the bottom location box.
Backspace over the contents in the bottom box, and type the following: C:\RTM\DATABASE
Next select Report,
Label, Envelope from the top menu, again write down the contents of the box.
Backspace over the contents in the bottom box, and type the following: C:\RTM\REPORT
The last change
to make is to select Document from the drop down menu. Write down the contents of
the bottom box.
backspace over the contents in the bottom box, and type the following: C:\RTM\DOCUMENT
When you have finished making these changes, click on the OK button, this will return you to the database.
Close the database by clicking the X in the top right hand corner. When the database is fully closed, double click on our icon labeled "Residential Transaction Manager" on your desktop or start menu to re-open the database. Please enter the user name and password again.
Change
one Start-Up Option
Click on EDIT > PREFERENCES. At the top of the box, you see various tabs, click on the tab labeled STARTUP. You see the following screen:

In the bottom left corner, click in the circle that says "Named Database". The white box will activate.
(If there is an entry already in the box, please write that entry below)
backspace over the contents, and type the following: C:\RTM\DATABASE\RTM.DBF
when you are finished, click the OK button.
Enjoy
The Free Evaluation
You can now freely evaluate the program. Each time you enter the database, it will ask you for the user name and password. Enter ABCD for the user name, and 1234 for the password.
If you have an existing database you would like to import into Residential Transaction Manager, we recommend you wait to import your database until after you purchase Residential Transaction Manager.
The licensing program automatically DELETES the unregistered database (as well as any data imported into it) and installs your registered database. If you choose to import data into the trial, please note that you will need to run your import again after you purchase Residential Transaction Manager.
